2nd Grade

Recorders!

Dear 2nd Grade parents,

During the second semester of Ute Pass student’s 2nd grade year, we will be studying the recorder.  This period of study has a different goal then a typical study of the recorder.  The primary of purpose of our time with the recorders is to prepare the students for next year, when they will start their journey with the violin.  All 3rd-5th graders at Ute Pass will check out a violin and learn to play.  Amazing!

Not only will studying the recorder give 2nd graders the musical foundations to prepare them for the violin, but also a taste of the responsibility required to take care of their violin.  I will be encouraging the students to take the recorder home to practice and bring it to school for music class on Tuesday and Friday!

Practicing At Home

I will also be encouraging the students to practice at home.  This is not a high-pressure practice at home situation.  For each song the students complete, they will receive a different color “belt” tied to their recorder to motivate them to practice.  So please help remind them to practice, but it doesn’t need to be a stressful or unpleasant situation.  If they get in the habit of practicing at home and that carries over to the violin, that’s great, but if it is a struggle, I wouldn’t push at this point.  The students will also be given time at school to practice.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns! Here is the recorder music with some helpful labels!

Vocal Warm Up!

I’m Still Standing

You could never know what it’s like
Your blood like winter freezes just like ice
And there’s a cold lonely light that shines from you
You’ll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use

And did you think this fool could never win
Well look at me, I’m coming back again
I got a taste of love in a simple way
And if you need to know while I’m still standing you just fade away

Don’t you know I’m still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I’m still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah
I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah

Once I never could hope to win
You starting down the road leaving me again
The threats you made were meant to cut me down
And if our love was just a circus you’d be a clown by now

You know I’m still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I’m still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah
I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah

Don’t you know I’m still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I’m still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah
I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah

I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah
I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah

Over The Rainbow

When all the world is a hopeless jumble And the raindrops tumble all around Heaven opens a magic lane

When all the clouds darken up the skyway There’s a rainbow highway to be found Leading from your windowpane

To a place behind the sun Just a step beyond the rain

Somewhere, over the rainbow Way up high There’s a land that I heard of Once in a lullaby

Somewhere, over the rainbow Skies are blue And the dreams that you dare to dream Really do come true

Some day I’ll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me

Where troubles melt like lemon drops away above the chimney tops That’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere, over the rainbow Blue birds fly Birds fly over the rainbow Why then, oh, why can’t I?

If happy little bluebirds fly Beyond the rainbow Why, oh, why can’t I?

The Ute Pass Song

Nestled in the mountains Kindness flowing like a creek Guarded by the shadow
of 14,000 feet (Pikes Peak!)

Beauty all around it
There’s a school that can’t be beat You can come and join us
A good vibration is our treat

Ute Pass Ponies
You can come and see

Everybody’s welcome
We give our friendship out for free You can come and join us
As long as you’re not being mean

Ute Pass Ponies
You can come and see

Everybody’s welcome
We give our friendship out for free You can come and join us
Because Ute Pass is a team

Ute Pass Ponies!

Back In The Saddle

Back in the saddle again
Out where a friend is a friend
Where the longhorn cattle feed

On the lowly jimson weed
back in the saddle again

Riding The Range Once More

Hoping to avoid saddlesores
Where you sleep out every night
And the only law is right
Back in the saddle again

Whoopi-ty-aye-oh
Rockin’ to and fro
Back in the saddle again

Whoopi-ty-aye-yay
I go my way
Back in the saddle again

Back in the saddle again
Out where a friend is a friend
Where the longhorn cattle feed
On the lowly jimson weed
Back in the saddle again

The Colorado Trail

Weep all you little rains
Wail, winds, wail
All along, along along
The Colorado trail

Saddle up my dapple-gray
The sky still red with dawn
Keep a steady pace all day
Singing my sweet song

Weep all you little rains
Wail, winds, wail
All along, along along
The Colorado trail

Ride all he lonely night
Ride all the day
Keep the herd a-rollin’ on
Rollin’ on it’s way

Weep all you little rains
Wail, winds, wail
All along, along along
The Colorado trail

Weep all you little rains
Wail, winds, wail
All along, along along
The Colorado trail

Black is the stormy night
Dark is the sky
I wish I’d stayed in Abilene Nice and warm and dry

Weep all you little rains
Wail, winds, wail
All along, along along
The Colorado trail
